Drug And Alcohol Detox

Detox is short for detoxification, a process that is used to remove harmful substances from the body and is the first stage and crucial step on the path to regaining sobriety.

The body is subjected to adjust to functioning without the presence of an addictive substance, and the process can be challenging and often uncomfortable. Still, it is necessary and the only way forward to effectively eradicate these drugs from the body that are the cause of addiction and other related disorders.

The procedure often occurs in a medical or clinical setting where a patient receives medical supervision, round-the-clock care, and support to address and intervene with any possible complications.

The goal of drug and alcohol detox is to effectively manage the withdrawal symptoms and ensure maximum safety and comfort for the patients while undergoing the process, after which, having completed the procedure successfully, they transition to the next stage of addiction treatment and therapy,

At Kembali Rehab, we are fully aware of the difficulties and challenges people face when they are struggling with alcohol or drug addiction and consider our facility and services revolve around each individual’s needs with expert knowledge on the subject, modern approaches, and luxurious settings to ensure every aspect of recovering from addiction is covered.

What is a Drug Detox?

Drug detox is the process of cleansing the body of addictive substances in a safe and controlled environment When someone has developed a physical dependence on drugs or alcohol, their body gradually starts to crave the substance to function normally.

A detox programme allows individuals to manage their withdrawal symptoms during the elimination of the toxins associated with the drug used.

This procedure generally involves medical supervision, to intervene should potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms arise. These symptoms may include nausea, tremors, hallucinations, seizures, and in extreme cases, delirium tremens.

Detoxification can take place in various settings, including inpatient rehab facilities, outpatient clinics, or even at home but always with the support of medical experts.

While detox is an essential first step in the recovery process, it is important to remember that to maintain long-term sobriety, detox will need to be followed up with rehabilitation enabling the individual access to various therapies, counselling, and support groups to address any potential underlying causes of their addiction and learn new coping strategies for the future.

Ongoing support and aftercare may continue for several months depending on the severity of addiction and how the person progresses with their recovery.

What is an Alcohol Detox?

The procedure for alcohol detox is very similar to drug detox whereby alcohol is eliminated from the body and forms the first step in the recovery process from alcohol dependence. However, during the detox phase, many unpleasant withdrawal symptoms may appear as the body adjusts to the absence of the substance.

These withdrawal symptoms may be physical and psychological and in severe cases are potentially dangerous and may be life-threatening.

Some of these symptoms may include nausea and vomiting, sweating, tremors or even seizures along with intense cravings that are typical of withdrawal and should be supervised and addressed by medical professionals. In most cases, medicines may be prescribed to assist with these uncomfortable symptoms to reduce the risk of further complications.

There are several factors regarding the duration of alcohol detox such as the person’s age, gender, severity of addiction and overall health, all of which are assessed before treatment and form part of the ongoing stages of recovery during rehabilitation.

What To Expect During The Detox Phase

Upon arrival as an inpatient at our facility, you will be assessed to determine the severity of the problem and other factors such as your age, gender, and overall health, among others, then upon the information gathered, our professional team will design a personalised treatment plan to suit your needs and requirements.

Shortly after, the detoxification process commences by starving your body of the harmful substance; this can soon become quite uncomfortable due to intense cravings, at times becoming intolerable. This unpleasantness generally peaks around 2 to 3 days, then becomes less intensive and may start to subside.

There may be a manifestation of other withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, headaches, anxiety, irritability, or sleep disorders, all related to the substance’s absence, as well as other complications that may need treatment should they arise and cause concern.

During this time, our onsite psychologist will supervise the procedure either at our facility or offsite with Bali Mental Health Clinic, depending on the severity of the addiction. We also work closely with Indonesian psychiatrist Dr Gusti Rai Putra Wiguna and have access to several nearby excellent hospitals and clinics.

Patients must have access to medical supervision during the process of managing withdrawal symptoms to avoid any potential complications and have the assurance their withdrawal experience will be monitored and assisted in helping minimise discomfort, lessen cravings, or intervene during moments of extreme anxiety.

What Happens After An Alcohol And Drug Detoxification?

Once the body is cleansed from all traces of the addictive substance, generally around 10 to 14 days depending on severity, the next stage of recovery is rehabilitation forming a large part of our residential rehabilitation programme.

Our main programme is based on 28 days although this may be extended to 60 or 90 days if the patient considers they would benefit from an extended stay.

Our rehabilitation services focus on group and individual counselling, incorporating holistic therapies such as yoga and using behavioural workshops to develop awareness and reconnect with our inner selves.

During this healing time, it is important that the patient also experiences an element of fun after having gone through such an ordeal, so we implement weekly excursions and activities to engage patients and allow them to restore enjoyment in their lives.
